Botox

What is Botox?
Botox or Botulinum Toxin A is used to relax the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Botox treatment is delivered through injections, but these are relatively pain free. Some people are put off by the fact the Botox is derived from a poison, it is worth remembering that all medicines are poisons in the wrong doses and Botox is just as safe as any other medication providing it is administered correctly by a trained professional.

How Does It Work?
Botox works by temporarily switching off the nerve receptors to muscles which are treated which causes them to relax. Lines are formed through over-activity of the muscles that underlie the skin and so relaxing these muscles softens these lines and can help prevent new lines from forming. Skin can be thought of as acting like a piece of cardboard; initially it is strong and resilient but after time and movement it becomes worn and creased. Unlike cardboard, after 6-12 months of botox treatment, skin can begin to soften and lines become less obvious.

How Long Does It Last?
Botox duration lasts differently between individuals, but typically the effects last for 3-4 months before normal muscle activity returns.

What Can It Do For Me?
Botox can be used to both treat existing lines and also stop lines from forming. This makes it ideal for a wide range of both younger and older patients who would like to soften and prevent lines. Typically botox is used in the upper face but can be used elsewhere for specific needs. The 3 main areas that can be treated are the forehead (frontalis), frown lines (Glabella complex) and crow’s feet (orbicularis oculi).

Common Myths
The “frozen” look usually is created by giving more treatment than is typically necessary. Usually some muscle activity is retained giving a more natural and subtle outcome. Once the effects of botox wear off, there is no damage or change in appearance; botox is completely reversible.

Dermal Fillers

What Are They?
The fillers that we use are composed of non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid which is stabilised into a gel. These fillers, because they are made of natural substances, are absorbed into the body over a period of 6-12 months.

What Do Fillers Do?
Fillers are commonly used in the treatment of the lower face. They are injected into tissues causing volumisation and pushing the tissue up.
This restores structure to the skin and can be used to soften deep folds and lines. They last around 12months before the effects wear off and the tissue returns to normal. After repeat treatments, the body naturally deposits its own collagen which helps to preserve the desirable affects of dermal filler treatment.

Fillers Myths
Often patients worry about fillers causing “trout pout” or other undesirable looks. This typically occurs in those who have been over-treated. We are passionate about using dermal fillers to enhance your natural looks and create subtle changes by using the correct amount of product to give you the look you want.

How Are They Used?
Dermal fillers are injected into the skin to soften lines, folds and wrinkles and to give volume, plumping and pushing up tissues. The most common areas that are treated with dermal fillers are the lips, mouth commissures (lines going from the corners of you mouth downwards) and the naso-labial folds (lines going from your nose to your mouth).
