Cosmetic Fillings

At Cudworth Dental Surgery we help you to adopt a healthy “preventative” approach to your teeth with a good brushing technique. Many of the children we treat will, through good diet and dental hygiene, avoid cavities and grow into mature adults without having any fillings. We will advise you on diet and the use of fissure sealants, both of which help prevent tooth decay and the need for fillings.

There are many different types of dental filling. At Cudworth Dental Surgery we will discuss with you the best type of repair for your tooth and will offer you a tooth-coloured repair whenever possible.

Tooth coloured filling materials can be used to place aesthetic repairs in teeth and rebuild chipped corners invisibly.

Many super aesthetic fillings, inlays and crowns are now available and we can maintain a natural appearance to your teeth even if you do need a lot of fillings and repairs. Replacing old fillings with new aesthetic materials can dramatically enhance an unsightly set of heavily repaired teeth.

At Cudworth Dental Surgery we continually review our filling treatments making sure that we offer you the most appropriate treatment using the best materials available to us.

Inlays/Outlays

When a tooth has lost a considerable amount of its structure, one of the treatment options rather than a conventional filling is to have an inlay or onlay.  Both are custom made in a dental laboratory. An inlay is cemented into the tooth to replace any missing core structure whereas an onlay does the same but also covers over the top of the tooth, protecting the corners from breaking. Inlays/onlays are used when the dentist thinks a direct filling won`t have a good long term success rate because it doesn`t offer the tooth enough protection.  Inlays and onlays can be made out of gold or tooth coloured materials such as porcelain, composite or zirconia.

At Cudworth Dental Surgery we offer all of these inlay/onlay options and your dentist will guide you through the best choice if it is an appropriate treatment for your tooth.
